Digital Twins
simulating reality today, building the world of tomorrow
How does
the city’s new utility infrastructure perform under colder-than-usual temperatures? How does developing a new subway system affect short- and long-term traffic congestion? How does a particular medication impact patients with diverse medical histories? In a deeply interconnected world, decisions around these questions dramatically impact our lives and demand significant time and resources. An emerging field at the intersection of data science, computational science, and artificial intelligence, digital twins are transforming industries by enabling experimentation in the digital realm before implementing solutions in the real world. These dynamic, virtual replicas of physical systems and entities enable us to simulate, analyze, and optimize complex processes in unprecedented ways, from healthcare to infrastructure.
On February 10, the Science Café will bring together two experts – Marcel Visser and Joost Lumens, professors in Groningen/Wageningen and in Maastricht – who will guide us through an exploration of digital twins, how they are being used to address current problems, and how they will inevitably influence our future. Visser will introduce us to the foundational concepts of digital twins and their role in modelling our physical environment and infrastructure, while Lumens will speak about the intimate role digital twins play in healthcare.
This evening, alongside riveting scientific discussions, be captivated by sparkling jazz performances of Trio in Dubio, playing original compositions as well as timeless classics from the Great American Songbook!
